What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

- All students, including those who are high potential and gifted, are supported to assume leadership roles through participation in the student representative council, mentoring programs, mentoring, and leading major events such as ANZAC, Remembrance Day, and NAIDOC assemblies
- Artistic talent is recognised and developed through MADD Night, Pop Idol and drama club, with support from a student stage crew managing sound, lighting, and production.
- The Premier’s Debating Challenge and creative writing competitions enhance skills in expression and argumentation.
- John Edmondson High School remains committed to promoting sporting participation across a wide range of competitions, including gala days, combined high schools knockout events, and selections for zone, regional, and state carnivals.
